Trey Culver, Divine Oduduru both earn silver medals in their high jump, 200-meter competitions.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Red Raiders ended their NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships competition with a sixth-place team finish for the men, marking the second-highest finish in program history.

Tech also snagged two silver medals, bringing the total medal count to three this weekend.

“I’m really proud of our kids,” head coach Wes Kittley said. “We have been ranked high all year long, but this is a truly hard meet to win. Our kids competed really well and we learned a lot and have the opportunity to improve on those things outdoors. The biggest thing for us was not having anything working our way… The DQ was disappointing, and Divine and Andrew both had difficult lanes in the 200 which was a tough situation. We will learn from it and move forward. Overall it was a great indoor season and I am so proud of our guys for everything they have accomplished so far this year.”

Senior jumper Trey Culver fell just short of a three-peat, claiming the silver medal in today’s high jump competition. Culver cleared four-out-of-five bars in his first attempt, ending the day at a 2.29m/7-6 height. This jump closed out Culver’s indoor competition with a No. 4 all-time record, now giving him the 1-4 spots this year alone.  

“What can you say about Trey… you jump 7’-6” and get beat, that is some competition that is just unheard of. Trey has been so consistent all year and that’s the first time all year that he has been beat. Always proud of him and what he does and how he represents this program.”   

Earning first team All-America honors in both the 60m and 200m races was freshman sprinter Divine Oduduru. With a 20.21 final in the 200m, Oduduru snagged Texas Tech’s second silver medal of the day. This time marked his second-fastest 200m dash this year, just behind his 20.18 race from earlier this season. This is a No. 2 all-time mark for Oduduru in the Texas Tech indoor records, serving as his fourth entry in the event. Oduduru also ran in the 60m, finishing sixth overall at a time of 6.62 to notch a new No. 3 all-time record.

Andrew Hudson joined Oduduru in becoming a first team All-American in the 200m. Hudson finished sixth in the race in a time of 20.73. In yesterday’s competition, Hudson competed in the 60-meter prelims, clocking a time of 6.68 for second team honors.

Closing out the horizontal jumps was Charles Brown in the triple jump, claiming ninth-place overall. Brown had a best leap of 16.17m/53-0.75 on his fourth attempt to earn his second team honors. Yesterday, Brown claimed the first of the medals this weekend with his bronze finish personal-best 8.12m/26-7.75 jump.

Overall, the Red Raiders ended the weekend with six first team and five second team All-America accolades.

“A fabulous performance by all of my veterans. Those guys led us just like they always have. I’ve been saying all along this would be razor thin. Overall we have momentum with no injuries and have a great opportunity to continue this into the outdoor season.”

The Red Raiders will start the outdoor season next weekend at the UTSA Invitational, taking place in San Antonio, Texas, on March 16-17.
