Four Red Raider football players were arrested and on the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Active Jail Roster on Sunday morning. By Monday morning, they were out of jail.

Police tell us they were called to Bash Riprocks at 2419 Main Street for a civil disturbance, attempting to locate an armed suspect. When police arrived there was a large group of people outside of the establishment, some impeding traffic. Officers say there were about 150 people in the crowd.

While police were searching for this armed suspect, officers witnessed 21-year-old Christian Taylor smash the windshield of a vehicle, according to an LPD shift summary report. When officers tried to arrest the suspect the crowd began to act aggressively toward police.

Taylor told police that the vehicle had tried to hit him.

A K-9 Unit on scene also released the dog, resulting in 20-year-old Desmon Smith Williams to be taken to University Medical Center for a dog bite.

According to the police report, while trying to disperse the crowd, an officer observed Jett Duffey punch a hole in the wall of ULofts and placed him under arrest.

10 people were arrested, in total. Some of those people include:

  • 23-year-old Houston Patterson
  • 21-year-old Daniel Garcia
  • 22-year-old Christian Marquez
  • 20-year-old Aaron Villareal
  • 21-year-old Furquan Shorts
  • 20-year-old Wesley Barrientas-Newberry
  • 20-year-old Desmon Smith-Williams
  • 20-year-old Aleah Dunn

Taylor, Duffey, Williams and Shorts are all members of the Texas Tech football team.

An official statement from Tech was released Sunday evening and said, "Texas Tech Athletics was made aware this morning of an incident involving members of our football program. We are still looking into the matter at this time."
