BOSTON, MA (KCBD) - Making the Elite 8 for the first time in school history, the 3rd seeded Texas Tech Red Raiders saw the season come to an end Sunday afternoon as they lost to top-seeded Villanova 71-59 in Boston.
The Red Raiders came out on fire scoring the first 7 points of the game and leading 9-1 just 3 minutes into the game, but Villanova went on a 35-14 run the final 17 minutes, giving the Wildcats a 36-23 halftime lead.
Tech was just 1 for 10 shooting 3's in the first half and they were outrebounded by Villanova 26-13.
The Red Raiders would chip away in the 2nd half and when Norense Odiase tipped in a shot, the Wildcat lead was down to 8 at 52-44 with 6:49 left.
Then Brandon Francis with a big 3 and Texas Tech was within 5 at 52-47, but they couldn't come any closer than 5 with the last time at 56-51.
Tech was 5 for 20 shooting 3's in the game while Villanova was 4 for 24.
Keenan Evans led the way with 12 as he was 3 for 14 from the field. Jarrett Culver led the Red Raiders with 11.
The Red Raiders finish a sensational season in Chris Beard's second year coaching the team with a 27-10 record.
