FLOYDADA, TX (KCBD) -

Floydada has promoted defensive coordinator Scotty Bruington to Head Football Coach of the Whirlwinds.

Bruington, who's also Floydada's Head baseball coach, replaces Todd Bandy, who stepped down after 9 years to just be Floydada's AD.

For Bruington, it's an honor to coach Floydada football.

"I've been in this business 27 years and always wanted to be a head football coach. Things just fell into place here. The kids have accepted it. They're working hard. We are really ready for August to roll around."

Bruington grew up in Petersburg and says he's looking forward to leading the Whirlwinds.

"They're gonna get a coach that's prepared. We are going to work hard. There have been some changes in our offseason workouts since I took over. It's special. Hopefully we'll do some good things in Floydada."
