All teachers have some type of teaching method that works best for them in the classroom. For K'aun Hardin, this week's teacher you can count on, it is bringing enjoyment to the classroom that gets her kids excited about learning.
K'aun Hardin is the primary music teacher at Preston Smith Elementary where she teaches kindergarten thru third grade. Students tell us they love Mrs. Hardin's way of teaching because she lets them have fun and play games.
Music class at Smith Elementary is more than learning...it's fun and games.
"I get to rhyme and play games with my friends," says Brittany Brozo, a third grader at Smith Elementary
"My philosophy in it is just to make sure the kids are having a good time," says Ms. Smith.
K'aun hardin has taught music at Smith Elementary for the past six years. During this time she has developed a style that helps her students enjoy learning.
Were trying to make independent listeners and thinkers and little musicians out of them too, even though they think were having fun and playing games.
The fun antics Hardin uses with her students have been taught for generations. More often then not students are eager to show their parents what they have learned.
I think when they take them home and share them with their parents it maybe some of the same things that their parents learned as kids too.
Music class at Smith Elementary is never dull.
"The kids pretty much come in being excited," says Hardin.
And it is the anticipation of what fun things they will learn next that keeps hardin's students coming back for more.
