PLAINVIEW – KCBD sports caster Pete Christy is scheduled to headline a special event as Wayland Baptist University celebrates unprecedented success in athletics. The Champions Celebration will take place Thursday afternoon, April 26, in Hutcherson center. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. with a special program scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Following the program, Christy will broadcast live from the Hutch for KCBD’s 6 p.m. newscast.

Wayland athletics has posted four national championships this year and is on the way to one of the school’s best ever finishes in the prestigious Learfield Directors’ Cup. The award is presented to the university that has the most overall success in athletics throughout the year. The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.

The high energy event will showcase and highlight various aspects of Wayland’s athletic success throughout the year and include a brief keynote address by Christy on what it means to be a champion. WBU athletics has won national championships in men’s soccer, women’s wrestling, and men’s and women’s indoor track and field this year, and is hoping for more hardware with baseball, golf, and outdoor track and field still competing.

Following the program guests will be treated to free hotdogs courtesy of the Plainview Lions Club and free t-shirts sponsored by Rocket Aviation, Apex Plumbing Heating and Air, Covenant Health and Thrasher Inc.
