The West Texas Coalition for the George W. Bush Presidential Library asked for the money to aid in its effort to bring the library to Lubbock. Friday, the city council decided against a bond election. Instead, it's forming a committee to study ways to fund the library.
"I think it would mean so much to the reputation of our community and economic development and the quality of life here," said City Councilman Tom Martin.
Martin says he'll also work to keep the city's commitment to roll back the tax rate and fund the library at the same time.
