The Texas Tech rodeo team is coming off a season where they won the National Championship in the team roping competition.
Now they are preparing to head back, with a new group, under new leadership. Former head coach Stetson Corman has left the program, to work for an Animal Health Company.
Since March the team has been led by Interim Head Coach Kipty Watt.
Watt was an assistant going for her Master's Degree before taking over the reins.
"I got left with some really good competitors and some athletes," Watt said. "So, it has been really fun and busy, but it keeps me on my toes."
Just nine days ago, the Texas Tech Women's Rodeo Team won the Southwest Regional, sealing their spot at the 2018 College National Finals Rodeo, along with Shane Knerr.
"I think this is probably the best team we have sent since I have been here," Senior Kynzie Rae McNeill said. "We have a very solid chance of winning it."
"Like our coach said, I hope we can win the Women's team again," said Junior Shelby Spielman. "Hopefully have all three of us in the barrel racing, that would be awesome."
"To win first," Junior Rainy Robinson said. "Because we have a really good set of barrel horses going and if you can be strong in the barrels like we have shown this semester, you can take a lot of points. I think we can win the women's team."
