18-year-old hanging from back of SUV in serious condition after falling off

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Police say an 18-year-old is in serious condition at the hospital after he fell from the back of an SUV Monday evening.

Officials say the man was hanging onto the back of the vehicle around 7:40 p.m. near 112th and Chicago Ave. He was taken to Covenant Medical Center.

The passengers of the SUV stayed with the man while the driver left to get help. The driver then returned to the scene with additional family members.

Due to the seriousness of the injuries, Accident Investigation officers responded to the scene to begin an investigation.

As of Tuesday morning, the 18-year-old is still in the hospital with serious injuries.

This case remains under investigation.

    According to officials with the Texas Department of Transportation, a tanker was heading south on FM 2130 towards Highway 114, about a mile and a half east of Smyer.
