LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The Lubbock Gem and Mineral Society started 60 years ago.

A couple of years after it formed, it began hosting a show and sale featuring jewelry, loose stones, gemstones, mineral specimens, crystals fossils, spheres and lapidary tools.

Now, 58 years later, the society is preparing to host the show with hourly drawings, free exhibits and presentations about geology by experts in the field.

This event will have a kids' area with games and grab bags as well as a fluorescent display of minerals.

The event kicks off on May 5th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

On Sunday, the doors will remain open from 10 a.m to 5 p.m.

Tickets are $4 for adults, $3 for seniors, and students ages 6-12 are $2. Children five and under are free.
