Mark Marley's Go BIG or Go Home BBQ Bash will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 4th and 5th, at the Running Water Draw (Kidsville) Park.

The event will include a state-sanctioned barbecue cook-off, concerts featuring Reckless Kelly and Kody West and many other activities at the event this year.

The State-Sanctioned Barbecue Cook-off begins on Friday and includes a Fajita Cook-off, Hot Sauce Blend-off and Margarita Mix-off. Friday night, sponsored by Xcel Energy, will also include the Kid's Q – a cook-off for kids. Lastly, the Steak Cook Association (SCA) Steak Cook-off will be held on Friday night as well. Winner of this event will be a SCA Championship Qualifier as well as a World Food Championship Qualifier - the second year that the Mark Marley Bash has received this designation for the cooks.

Saturday Cook-off includes four meat categories (pork spare ribs, chicken, pork butt and brisket) as well as an optional Cook's Choice category, Jackpot Beans category, Bloody Mary Mix-Off and a CASI Chili Cook-off. Entry fees for each event vary between $15 - $150 and no association memberships are required to enter. "Having a State-Sanctioned Barbeque Cook-off in Plainview draws a great crowd of participants," said RaeAnne King, event co-chair. "People enjoy participating in our event to not only hone their skills but also to compete for a qualifying spot at the American Royal in Kansas City as well as the chance at the Jack Daniels Invitational."

Headliners for this year's event feature Kody West on Friday night and Reckless Kelly on Saturday night.

Other bands performing at the Bash include Jason Nutt, Dave and Carley, Jack Cryver, Seth Ward, Drake Hayes, Dalton Domino, and Mariachi los Galleros during the day for a Cinco de Mayo celebration.

Other events include a Car Show, sponsored by Ana Borrego State Farm, will be held on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00pm and is in memory of Raymond Hooks. The show will be in the parking lot of the park and entry fee is $25 per car. To enter the car show, contact Joyce Sinor at 806.292.5028 or jsinor@legacyfarmslp.com.

"Several citizens have asked that sand volleyball courts be built and the Parks department added them this winter," said Melinda Brown, event co-chair. "They have been utilized often and we look forward to using them for a tournament for the Bash."

A doubles horseshoe tournament will be held again this year on Saturday beginning at noon. The double elimination bracket is $30.00 per team, belt buckles will be awarded to the top team and the tourney pits meet NHPA regulations. To enter the tournament, contact Melinda Brown at 806.296.1119 or mbrown@plainviewtx.org.
