LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A school bus was involved in a wreck near East 24th and MLK on Monday afternoon, but LISD says no one in the bus was injured.

Preliminary reports say a driver in a minivan veered to avoid a prairie dog and struck the bus, causing the mirror and bumper to grace the mural wall at 24th & MLK.

The driver of the car was taken to UMC with minor injuries.

The wreck happened around 3:40 p.m. Traffic in the area is back to normal as of 4:45 p.m.

LISD released this statement on Monday evening:

A Lubbock ISD bus carrying seven elementary school students was traveling north on Martin Luther King Blvd. when a minivan swerved to avoid a prairie dog. The minivan hit the front of the bus, which caused the bus to bump the curb and the passenger side mirror and bumper to graze the mural wall at 24th and MLK. No students nor the driver were injured in the accident. Students were picked up by their parents. After the minivan was removed by a tow truck, the bus was able to drive away from the scene.
