QB Drew Brees in Lubbock for benefit dinner

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees was in town Wednesday night for a Dinner with Drew event at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center to benefit Team Luke Hope For Minds.

Luke Siegel and his dad Tim are Saints fans and they have developed a strong bond with Brees, who was honored to come to Lubbock to help out.

"The last couple of years I've had a chance to develop a relationship with Tim and Luke. What a special family. They came out to a few games in New Orleans and had a chance to bring him to the Saints facility and just spend time together. This is my home state of Texas. I can't say I've spend a ton of time in Lubbock, but the opportunity to be here is great."

Brees says 12-year-old Luke means a lot to him.

"He's an incredible young man and he's got an incredible family. I feel very blessed to have had the chance to meet them and spend time with them over the last few years. It's a pleasure to be in Lubbock and be part of this event tonight."

Brees says he knows he's in the public eye and is happy to use his position and platform to good work to help others.

"Having a heart of service is something that has always been important to me. I understand I have a great position as a quarterback in the NFL to really make a positive impact in the lives of a lot of people. I take that responsibility very seriously. I try to do what I can for a lot of different causes."
