LORENZO, TX (KCBD) -

Longtime boys basketball coach Thomas Clay has decided to make the switch and coach the Lorenzo girls next season. For 20 years he's coached boys basketball at Valley, Meadow, Grady, Krum and last year at Lorenzo. He is excited to coach the Lady Hornets.

"It really is a move that I've been thinking about doing a while. The Lorenzo girls have a great tradition. I thought what better way to start. It was tough leaving the boys. I have some back issues and football is really hard on it and basketball girls is a way to alleviate that and still stay in the game and at a high level with the Lorenzo girls."

Coach has made good runs at every school he has been at and now he'll try to guide the Lady Hornets. What was the response from the girls?

"I didn't know what their reaction would be.  I told them and they looked excited. We have been getting up and down the court fast. They are adjusting and are excited."

Coach Clay loves Lorenzo and wants to help get the right coach in to lead the Hornet boys. It's a promise he made to them.

"We need a good coach for these guys. If you don't know anything about Lorenzo, these are great kids here. They work really hard. We have great community support. We have great parents here. We have a great group coming back."
