LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Hundreds of people spent their Memorial Day helping the South Plains Food Bank by participating in the Conquer Hunger Run.
The one mile and 5K race was held at Mackenzie Park on Monday morning.
It's the 9th year for the race with runners dressed as super heroes.
There were no registration fees, organizers just asked participants to bring food donations to help stock the pantry.
This as the food bank begins their Summer of Sharing drive, at a time when the pantry runs low on food for those in need.
Macy Lopez with the South Plains Food Bank said, "On behalf of the Food Bank, we truly appreciate everyone who put this together: Food King, Plains Capital, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They are always great supporters of the Food Bank and they put on this huge event for us. We get a lot of donations and that is just starting us up for the summer so we truly truly appreciate it."
Last year's Summer of Sharing drive collected more than 130,000 pounds of food and raised more than $40,000.
