LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - For the third time in program history, the Red Raider baseball team will host the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Red Raiders will face the Duke Blue Devils in a best of three series.
The Blue Devils are an opponent that Texas Tech has never faced before. They earned their way to Lubbock after winning the Athens Regional last weekend.
Duke rolls into the Hub City hitting .278 as a team, with six players hitting above average.
The only common opponent that Texas Tech and Duke have is Louisville, as the Blue Devils lost to the Cardinals in the ACC Tournament by a final of 9-2.
Red Raider Head Coach Tim Tadlock raved about Duke's bullpen at the pregame news conference on Friday.
"I am impressed with their whole team," Tadlock said. "Obviously there is some good arms down there in the bullpen. They can match up with you, it looks like. There is a reason, obviously to go back and you win 18 games in the ACC. Coach Pollard says, 'Hey we have been going to our bullpen.' That means the bullpen is pretty good. I don't know if it took me to say that, he said the bullpen is pretty good."
The first game on Saturday, June 9, will start at 2 p.m. and will be televised on ESPNU.
Game two of the series is set for Sunday at 5 p.m. on ESPNU and the Monday game, if necessary, is slated for 3 p.m. on ESPN 2.
The winner of the 2018 NCAA Lubbock Super Regional will head to Omaha, Nebraska, for the 2018 College World Series.
