On the Road in Littlefield

Littlefield is 37 miles northwest of Lubbock on Highway 84. Named for George W. Littlefield, this town was incorporated in 1924. Twenty-two years later, it was declared the Lamb County seat beating out the city of Olton for the title. Right now, more than 6,000 people live here in Littlefield. Littlefield was even the hometown of the late country music hall of famer, Waylon Jennings. Jennings recorded more than sixty albums and sold sixteen number one hits. Buddy Holly produced Jennings' first record. It was reported that it was Jennings who gave up his seat to the Big Bopper on the plane that crashed and kill Holly, the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens. Jennings died in 2002.
