Watermelon Growing Into Million Dollar Market For Denver City

Cotton is king in most South Plains Cities but in Denver City, the crop is much "sweeter."

NewsChannel 11's John Robison took part in the 10th Annual Watermelon roundup in early September. The event celebrates the Yoakum County watermelon crop. Each year, farmers plant 1,500 acres that yield 30,000 to 40,000 pounds of watermelons per acre. The crop yields $2 million to $3 million a year.
