On the Road in Levelland

It's the county seat of Hockley County and was originally named Hockley City in 1921. The next year, the town was renamed for its local topography to Levelland. Since then, Levelland has grown to a city of nearly 13,000. Every year, more than 7,000 college students call Levelland home. South Plains College, a two year community college is based in Levelland with extension locations in Lubbock. The school is known for its comprehensive music program. It's the only community college in Texas where students can graduate with a degree in commercial music, specializing in blue grass. You might recognize a few of its former students who are now famous singers including Dixie Chick Natalie Maines and country star, Le Ann Womack who was nominated for six Country Music awards this year, including female vocalist of the year. Those awards will be handed out November 15th.
