City Considers Annexation Of Land Near Airport

They use city utilities, fire and police but they don't pay taxes. That's why, the Lubbock City Council held a hearing Wednesday to discuss the annexation of the West Port and East Port areas of Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport.

Businesses like aviation operations and private airplane companies are on airport grounds but are not currently inside the city limits. By annexing the land, the city would gain $93,000 in tax-revenue.

The city council did not vote on the issue Wednesday. Another public hearing will be held next month.
