CLOVIS, N.M. (KFDA) -

An inmate who escaped the Curry County Adult Detention Center Monday evening is now back in police custody.

25-year-old Kaitlyn Martinez-Arington and a second party were located before noon Tuesday hiding in the attic of a home in the 600 block of Cameo Street in Clovis.

The second party has been identified as David Gibson. He was also wanted on unrelated felony warrants.

Sheriff Waller says the two refused to leave the attic, so officials used tear gas to force them to surrender.

Police say Martinez-Arington escaped from the jail around 9:00 p.m.

Authorities say she overpowered a health care worker in her escape.

Martinez-Arington had been jailed since May on drug and failure-to-appear charges and was being held without bond.

Records show she has a history of criminal accusations beginning in 2012 ranging from theft to aggravated assault on a peace officer.
