SEAGRAVES, TX (KCBD) -

Aspen Wyatt-McWhorter, a 23-year-old Dallas man, has been taken into custody in the Gaines County jail after fleeing from police and assaulting police officers.

The Seagraves Police Department reported law enforcement was called at around 8 p.m. on Monday to the 500 block of Avenue J in Seagraves for a violent domestic disturbance. Officers were able to find and identify Wyatt-McWhorter and approached him, according to an SPD Facebook post.

Wyatt-McWhorter then ran from police and barricaded himself inside of a small structure. Warrants were being drawn up for his arrest, but while that was happening Wyatt-McWhorter was able to escape through a small window in the structure.

SPD officers and deputies with the Gaines County Sheriff's Office searched for Wyatt-McWhorter but were unable to find him.

However, after around 5 p.m. on Tuesday SPD's Chief Brent Grundstrom, while off-duty, saw the suspect at the same property and called for assistance. Police arrived at the scene and found Wyatt-McWhorter hiding in a bedroom of the residence.

When officers were able to make contact with him a struggle ensued while they were trying to apprehend him and it was reported Wyatt-McWhorter injured one or more officers.

Wyatt-McWhorter has since been arrested and charged with resisting arrest, search or transportation, and aggravated assault against a peace officer.
