Infant injured in crash

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock Police Department officers are investigating a crash at Guava Avenue and East 19th Street that sent an infant to the hospital with serious injuries Wednesday evening.

On August 8th, around 5 p.m., officers were called to a two-vehicle crash near East 19th and Guava Avenue.

Through the initial investigation, police say it appears a Ford pickup truck was stopped at the southbound stop sign on Guava Avenue at East 19th Street. A Chevrolet TrailBlazer traveling southbound on Guava Avenue rear ended the pickup truck.

The impact of the collision sent both vehicles across intersection. The TrailBlazer continued traveling off the roadway and came to a stop after crashing into a tree.

A three month old infant in the TrailBlazer was taken by ambulance to UMC with serious injuries. The other two occupants, a 19-year-old female and 15-year-old female, had minor injuries. Police say it appears the infant was being held by the 15-year-old front right passenger at the time of the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

This crash remains under investigation by LPD Crash Investigators.
