Lubbock County's long time medical examiner officially announced his retirement at a special meeting in front of the county Commissioner's Court on Thursday.
Doctor Sridhar Natarajan has been the chief medical examiner for about 10 years now.
The Commissioner's Court took the opportunity to honor Natarajan and the work he has done.
Precinct 3 Commissioner Gilbert Flores said, "It is a bittersweet moment, again thank him for the wonderful service he has done and I believe I can talk on behalf of the court itself, he has served us very well and also all the citizens of Lubbock County "
The Commissioner's Court also appointed a new acting interim chief medical examiner, Doctor Sam Andrews.
Andrews will work while the court makes a decision during the next few weeks to appoint a permanent replacement for doctor Natarajan.
"Dr Andrews is very well qualified," Flores said. "We like him. He has gone through the procedure already of being interviewed...hopefully he will consider staying in Lubbock and being our next pathologist."
Natarajan's last day will be Oct. 1.
