Crash Kills Eastern New Mexico Athlete

An Eastern New Mexico University athlete is dead after a three car collision South of Shallowater, Tuesday.

Twenty-one year-old Sheena Ray of Odessa was killed when the driver of the car she was riding in ran a stop sign around 9 o'clock in the morning. Ray was a member of the track team at Eastern New Mexico University. DPS Troopers say 22-year-old Daquita Mitchell ran a stop sign on North University and Farm to Market Road 2641. That's just West of the County Line Restaurant. A red truck going North hit Mitchell's Neon on the driver's side. A mini-van going South hit the passenger side where Ray was sitting.

AeroCare flew Mitchell to Covenant where she is in serious condition at this hour. An elderly couple from Abernathy in the mini-van was also injured. Both Dan and Vallaree Wright are in serious condition at UMC.
