Police responded to the 7200 block of Avenue W at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday after it was reported a Hispanic male tried to abduct a 15-year-old girl, according to an LPD news release. Authorities were told the teen was walking in the area, talking on the phone when the man grabbed her from behind and used his hand to cover her mouth.

Neighbors heard the teen scream and came outside; that led to the suspect letting her go. The suspect got into a pickup and fled the area and neighbors helped walk the teen home.

The suspect appears to be between 17 and 20 years of age, and is possibly between 5’7” and 5’10”. The vehicle he was seen getting into was a dark colored GMC, possibly a Sierra pickup truck.

LPD's Crime Against Children detectives are investigating the incident and are asking anyone who might have relevant information such as security camera footage or something similar. Those with information are asked to call LPD's Crime Line at 806-741-1000.
