Facts About Proposed Reutilization of O. L. Slaton

The Center for Arts, Broadcasting and Careers was approved by the voters in the 2004 bond package to provide, for students of all grade levels, a state-of-the-art performance theater; a second, smaller performance venue; two dance studios, one for middle school and one for high school; LISD TV, with updated training facilities; and a career center.

The citizen-led 2004 Bond Steering Committee recommended that the Center for ABC’s be centrally located to the four high schools. With O. L. Slaton across the street from the ATC, it is simply the only location that will allow the two buildings to complement each other. Students can easily access programs in both facilities. Buses are already running between the four high schools and the ATC making transportation more efficient.
