Plainview Firing Range Opens With Bang - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

Guns instead of scissors were used at a ribbon cutting in Plainview Monday morning. Area and state dignitaries including Representative Pete Laney fired at the ribbon instead of cutting it.

The explosive ceremony marked the dedication of the new Training Academy Firing Range at Texas Department of Criminal Justice's Formby/Wheeler Complex. The range will be open to all area law enforcement.

"When you're on a budget for travel and so forth, if you can stay at home, you can train more often which will make you more effective," said Rodney Cooper, the Regional Director of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

The prison also celebrated its 10th anniversary Monday.
