Do those popular antibacterial soaps really work? Or could they bring more harm than good?
That is what the Food and Drug Administration wants to know. So, it is taking the issue to an outside committee of experts who will examine whether the use of antibacterial soaps, wipes and washes should be limited.
Health experts are concerned that with some 253 antibacterial products on the market in the United States, years of use could lead to the emergence of bacteria that is resistant to antibiotics. Any move by the FDA would affect hundreds of products on store shelves.
