Breast Cancer Drug

There is new evidence that a drug already on the market could help save the lives of some women with breast cancer.

Two studies in the United States and another one in Europe all point to the same conclusion, that adding Herceptin to chemotherapy can cut breast cancer recurrence in half for women with a specific type of breast cancer called "Her-2". Herceptin is already used to treat Her-2 patients with advanced or recurrent cancer, researchers say this is the first evidence that it may benefit other women in the early stages of the disease as well. The United States studies were funded in part by the manufacturers of Herceptin, but the study in Europe was not and it had the same results.
