The community of Dimmitt said their final good-byes to a fallen hero today.
Jacob Dones, or J.J., was killed in Iraq on October 20th, when his forward operation base came under attack by enemy forces.
Yellow ribbons were displayed across Dimmitt showing the support of a small town grieving after the loss of one of their own. After a service was held at Immaculate Conception a horse carriage carried J.J. To his final resting place just outside of town. Along the way to the cemetery hundreds of people lined the streets holding flags showing their support for the Dones family.
"In a small town anytime you loose anyone like this everyone takes it to heart, especially someone who was doing a lot for their country." stated Morgan Hazel, a classmate of Dones.
J.J.'s former classmates, like Morgan Hazel and Jason Harris, will always remember him for the happiness he bestowed on others.
"What I can tell you about J.J. is that he was a good all around guy. Just a funny kind of guy." said Hazel.
"He was always in the hallways having a good time making every one smile." Remembered Jason Harris.
