A virtual reality training center is making a week long stop in Lubbock to provide hands on training to physicians so they will be more skilled in new high tech procedures. The mobile lab, by Medtronic, is 80 feet long, and features two virtual surgical implant labs with advanced simulation systems. Allowing hospitals to bring new high tech training directly to their staff.
The main thing here is to train on your skills. On a dummy, you can do it multiple times and you can make an error and have no consequences. If you do that on patients, it takes its toll, says Carols Rizo-Patron M.D. and Electrophysciologsit.
Nearly three thousand physicians, nurses and other health professionals have already been trained on the Medtronic mobile unit since it began rolling across the country in June of last year. This is its first stop in Lubbock, where it began training at the heart hospital. Tomorrow, it moves to University Medical Center where it will stay for the rest of the week.
