Local hospitals use 110 to 140 units of blood every day, and right now, UBS can not fill their orders.
UBS is issuing an appeal for "O" negative and "A" negative blood donors. Other types are also in short supply.
"I know people get tired of hearing we're on critical appeal. It's kind of a nature of the beast with a 42-day shelf life, whenever we call on the community they rally and they come out and that's a good thing in this community and we need to ask them to do that right now," said Les Long, with United Blood Services. To donate blood, stop by UBS at 48th and University or call 806-741-1600 to make an appointment.
