  • Skim Milk

Here is a good reason to add skim milk to your morning cereal. A study out of Spain suggests a diet rich in low-fat of fat free dairy could lower the risk of high blood pressure, or hypertension. Hypertension is a key risk factor for heart disease. Previous studies have suggested that nutrients in milk.Such as calcium, potassium and magnesium.. Could help maintain normal blood pressure. This new report indicates skim is even better, after studying the diets of nearly 6,000 men and women for more than two years. The study is in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

  • Bleaching Risks

Working as a hair stylist could put your lungs at risk. A new study suggests long term exposure to salts used in some hair bleaching products may increase the risk of asthma and hayfever symptoms. After performing lung function tests on 47 stylists who had worked for about eight years, researchers found over half had work related asthma and hayfever related to the salts in bleaching products. The study is published in the Journal Chest.

  • Hookah Teeth

Ever heard of hookah smoking? Hookah lounges have popped up in cities across the US, where people smoke a tobacco, fruit and molasses substance out of a water pipe. A new study in the Journal of Periodontology shows hookah smoking may be worse for your teeth and gums than smoking cigarettes. Researchers found hookah smokers had a five-fold increase risk for periodontal disease, and the risk climbs with increased use. Hookah smokers were also 6% more likely to have gum disease than cigarette smokers. Perhaps a bigger problem, researchers say hookah smokers may think they are inhaling less tobacco because of the water filter in the pipe, but there is actually more nicotine in hookah and the same amount of carcinogens.
