Hair Follicle Could Help Nerve Injuries

A simple hair follicle could someday help people with nerve injuries.

Researchers at the University of California at San Diego took stem cells from a hair follicle in mice, grew them in a dish and injected them into mice with severed nerves in their legs. Not only did they see new nerves grow, but the legs became functional again. Researchers are hopeful that this could be an alternative to embryonic stem cell therapy and eventually help patients with nerve related diseases or injuries.
