Lubbock Airport Reaches Record Number of Holiday Travelers

A record number of holiday travelers have gone through Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport in the last two days, and with the busy time of year, the Transportation Security Administration is out in full force. NewsChannel 11's Jennifer Vogel visited the airport and spoke with travelers both coming and going for Thanksgiving, and how to make travelling at the airport run smoothly.

TSA has a few tips to make your holiday travel easier.

  • First, get to the airport and hour and a half before your flight.
  • Next, check all of your bags to make sure you don't have any prohibited items.
  • Last, they ask all passengers to be a little patient.

Today while we were at the airport, we met a lot of people leaving town, but found just as many that were coming home to Lubbock for the holidays. It is the busiest day at the airport, but you couldn't tell here in Lubbock. There were not many long lines, but plenty of families and friends reuniting for the holidays. Marianne and Marilee from Clovis are long time friends that met in Lubbock just to head their separate ways. One is going to Brownwood and one is going to Dallas.

There's always a few full flights that land right here in the place they call home. "We've only been here a few months so my parents are coming out to visit for the first time for Thanksgiving." Rachel and Hayden are beginning their new life in Lubbock, and for their first holiday, they are hosting their parents from Florida. "We are going to eat turkey and go hunting."

Another family sits and anxiously awaits their fourth family member. "My husband is flying in from Florida." And when the moment arrives, it gives this family a whole new meaning to being thankful." "I'm glad to be home. Glad to be back."

TSA urges you to use a checklist before you fly. You can find one on their web site at (
