South Plains Mall Ready for Shopping Blitz

'Black Friday' or the day after Thanksgiving is the second busiest shopping day of the year. 160,000 people are expected to come to the South Plains Mall this weekend, and finding a parking space will be difficult. Starting Friday, valet parking will be available all day, everyday. Just drop off your car by Comp USA or between Beall's and JC Penney. Then head inside and enjoy your holiday shopping.

"Do you need any gift receipts?" That's a question you can get used to hearing now that the holiday shopping season is here. South Plains Mall really looks a lot like Christmas. Santa is here and there are visions of savings are all around, and come Friday, the halls of the mall will be packed. "I think it's jut a matter of coming out and kicking off the holiday season. I know in my family, it's kind of a tradition. We always go to the mall the day after Thanksgiving," says Beth Bridges, the South Plains Mall Marketing Manager.

Bridges expects 1.5-million shoppers at the South Plains Mall between now and Christmas. JC Penney hired 80 extra employees to help the 160,000 customers who are expected at the mall this weekend. It's Assistant Store Manager, Larry Boggs' tenth season at the store. He says 'Black Friday' is hectic, but worth it. "Just seeing all the people out and getting ready for Christmas and helping them find the things that's going to make their loved ones happy in their house, that's kind of the exciting part."

If you're not the department store type, the pillow pals stand is just one of many "center stores" with great gift ideas. And if the stress of holiday shopping really starts to get to you, you can stop by Senation Station for a quick ten minute massage.

Bridges is sure everyone will find that perfect gift. When you do, you can have it gift wrapped. "We're optimistic too with sales and just the whole holiday spirit in general," says Bridges.

JC Penney and many stores open early at five o'clock Friday morning. The mall has extended holiday hours through Christmas. Also when we were inside we saw numerous "hiring" signs. For information on the valet parking, extended hours and jobs (click here).
