"The students are doing a great job and they are learning allot more than I was learning when I was in elementary," says Gina Marmolejo.
Gina Marmolejo has been teaching at McWhorter Elementary for the past 13 years. The last five have been spent inspiring kids to understand the evolving world of computers.
"We always talk about how technology is all around and I try to get them prepared for the real world," adds Marmolejo.
Computer class has now changed from fun and games to learning practical application of modern programs.
"Power points and word processing and Excel we do some spread sheets and charts and graphs and so the kids really love it," says Gina.
Then, Marmolejo takes that teaching beyond the classroom.
"I do a mini page for McWhorter with West Texas Hispanic Newspaper so every week I am looking for work that students have done and I'll take pictures and feature a class a week," says Marmolejo.
Every one in the community can see her work just by picking up a copy of the West Texas Hispanic Newspaper.
"That's just something i do for the kids and the parents and they seem to enjoy it," exlplains Gina.
