You need to make sure your car has plenty of anti-freeze in the coolant. If you do not, mechanics say you can bust your radiator or block which can result in pricey engine repair. "When you check your antifreeze, just fill the test tube, watch for the balls to float. There's a scale right here, and you measure how good your antifreeze is by the balls that float. This one is good until minus 34," said Joel Prock, Owner of Prock Automotive.
Usually in extreme cold weather like we are about to get, it takes single digits when we will end up with an engine or two that froze," said Prock.
If you find that your antifreeze is weak, Prock says you will need to flush it out and replace it with a 50-50 mix of water and antifreeze.
