STATEMENT FROM TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY SYSTEM CHANCELLOR DAVID R. SMITH REGARDING UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA POSITION

Texas Tech University System Chancellor David R. Smith today announced that he has withdrawn his name from consideration for the position of chancellor of the University System of Georgia. In a message to the firm coordinating the search for the position, Smith wrote: “After careful consideration of a number of factors, and yet humbled by the nomination and interest on behalf of the Georgia System, I am asking that my name be withdrawn from consideration as Chancellor of the University System of Georgia. This is a difficult decision, but I feel it is in the best interest of my family and Texas Tech. I know, given the quality of the applicants, that your elegant system will be in good hands. I want to express my congratulations to the successful candidate when he is announced later this week. I wish you and the Board of Regents the very best, and have a Happy Holiday season.”
