City Welcomes Troops Home with "Yellow Ribbon Week"

120 soldiers from Lubbock are back on Texas soil. To welcome them home, the City of Lubbock has something special planned; tying a yellow ribbon around the ole oak tree.

By displaying the ribbon, it shows support for our troops. On Friday the Lubbock City Council declared next week "Yellow Ribbon Week" to welcome home the second Battalion of the 142nd Infantry. 1st Sgt. Dan Reid from the unit says, "It strikes the hearts of the guys, and it shows how much the city cares."

The 2nd Battalion participated in the largest mobilization in Texas history, since World War Two. They spent the last year performing security missions and support operations in Iraq. The soldiers are expected to arrive in Lubbock on Tuesday.
