Lubbock's Only Strip Club Takes Fight to Court

NewsChannel 11 told you in November the Lubbock police department rejected the owner's application to operate Baby Dolls, Lubbock's only strip club. It is because the owner, Charles Westlund left off information about his felony convictions, which we now know are felony forgery and tax evasion out of California.

You can not operate a sexually oriented business if you have a criminal past. Westlund is appealing his case before the Permits and Licensing board of Appeals next month. But before that happens, he has filed a restraining order in district court against the city.

Lubbock City Councilman Tom Martin says the owner is trying to get around his appeal hearing with the city of Lubbock next month. City attorneys tell NewsChannel 11 they want the judge to throw out the request and let the city Permits and Licensing Board of Appeals decide if Westlund should get his license to operate Baby Dolls.

When Westlund bought Players this summer, he also acquired the operating license that is good until the end of the year.

The hearing is Tuesday afternoon at the Lubbock County courthouse.
