Wheelock Elementary students gave up their Christmas Party this year for Lubbock's First Responders.
The students donated money they would've used on a party and presented first responders with a check for $50. The check will buy the first brick of the Lubbock Regional Public Safety Memorial.
"If we can get every school and every grade to have a brick that can be recognized at our memorial," Lt. Buddy Davis with the Lubbock Fire Department said.
Wheelock students are encouraging other schools to get involved. The Public Safety Memorial will honor all first responders including DPS, police, sheriff's department, fire and EMS. It will be built on the corner of 75th and Slide.
