In the past 24 hours, more than 70 wildfires have broken out in north and central Texas prompting governor rick perry to issue a disaster declaration. Dry and windy conditions are being blamed for the rapidly spreading fires and officials are calling the recent outbreak the worst the state has seen in nearly ten years.
In Tarrant county, near Fort Worth, the flames engulfed several houses. Perry ordered the deployment of the Texas Army National Guard and requested assistance from the U.S. Forest Service.
Some firefighters have been hospitalized with smoke inhalation but there are no reports of deaths.
