Holiday Puts Strain On Lubbock Blood Supply

At least one third of the Lubbock population is going to need blood at some time, however, only 5% of the population is doing its part to make sure there's enough supply.

The holidays always take a toll on the number of donors coming into United Blood Services. That's why they are asking for donations now, to help replenish the supply. "The holiday season is always taxing on the blood supply, with people doing other activities and us having a few days where we don't draw, but the hospitals continue to use that 110-140 units every day," says Les Long, with United Blood Services.

In return for your donation, you'll receive a free T-shirt, a free full-service car wash, courtesy of X-Stream Autoclean, a free appetizer at Texas Road House, and a free 30-day body works membership.

You will also have an opportunity to win a free $100 shopping spree. This is all part of the After Christmas Blood Drive which ends Saturday. UBS is located at 48th and University, you can make an appointment by calling (806) 741-1752.

What is it Like to Donate Blood?
The blood donation process is easy. Most donors find it a painless and heartwarming experience.
