Attorney General Wants $30 Divorce Fee Eliminated

Getting a divorce in Texas may not cost as much if Attorney General Greg Abbott has his way.

He wants to eliminate a $30 Family Protection Fee recently approved by the Texas legislature. The money benefits education programs designed to prevent child abuse and neglect.  However, Abbott says the state constitution prohibits charging fees that don't pertain to court-related purposes.

The fee went into effect September 1st.
