Wind is to blame for a grassfire that spread across the New Mexico state line and threatened the West Texas town of Plains.
Plains is located about 70 miles SouthWest of Lubbock. Fire fighters say the grass fire started around 12:30 Sunday afternoon about five miles into New Mexico. The wind caused it to spread West and burn more than 1200 acres. Fire fighters from Texas and New Mexico helped contain the blaze, which took at least four hours. The town of Plains was put on alert for evacuation, fortunately no one had to leave.
