He's still campaigning for your vote, but Matt Powell is now officially Lubbock County District Attorney.
"I Matthew Dane Powell do solemnly swear I will faithfully execute the duties of office of Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney, State of Texas, to the best of my abilities so help me God," Powell said as he took his oath of office Thursday.
Governor Rick Perry appointed Powell to the office in December. Powell was already serving as Interim DA since Bill Sowder left to serve as Judge of the 99th District Court in September. The appointment means Powell can serve through the end of Sowder's term. That's why he's campaigning to keep the office. He's running against Lubbock attorney Tommy Turner in the March Primary election.
