20 million Americans have kidney disease. That means one in every 9 people could end up like Esmarelda, in need of a kidney transplant. Early detection can save your life because if doctors can find out early that you're on the road to kidney trouble, there is treatment to stop the process before it leads to kidney disease or worse kidney failure.
The National Kidney Foundation of West Texas is offering a free screening this Wednesday to help identify people at risk of kidney disease. It's from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Maxey Community Center, which is at 4020 30th street.
