Two Lubbock non-profit health care providers requested and received a restraining order against a third provider for allegedly not releasing patient medical records.
The Lubbock Children's Health Clinic and Presbyterian Center formed the Community Health Clinic in the early 1990's to provide administrative services, including record keeping. On Saturday, the two providers said the Community Health Clinic denied a request to access some records, so they filed for the restraining order which was issued by a district judge. The Community Health Center said the request was unusual.
"There was approximately nine patients seen, that day, that we facilitated access to the medical record. When 350 came up as a request, Community Health Clinic was concerned about the volume, the time and just to safeguard and protect that medical record," said Liz Lopez, Assistant Administrator for Community Health Clinic.
The Community Health Clinic has since turned over the requested records to the two providers. A Lubbock Court will view the case next week.
